Bio
Kirsten Busby graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Music and Diploma of Language (German) in 2021. Originally from Darwin NT, Kirsten moved to Sydney at the beginning of 2023 to pursue her passion for opera. She currently studies with Nadia Piave and regularly finds opportunities to expand her knowledge with other vocal teachers and coaches.
For Hunter and Sydney based opera companies, Kirsten has performed in the ensembles of Theodora (Concordia Ensemble), La Boheme (Opera Hunter), The Elixir of Love (Rockdale Opera Company) and Don Giovanni (Concordia Ensemble) in 2023. She has also performed in gala concerts including Music on Mars in Ryde.
In such a short time, Kirsten has become Australia’s Premier Blind soprano.
Going from strength to strength, Kirsten’s future engagements include La Boheme with Rockdale Opera Company (Nov 2023), a gala concert with Opera Hunter (Dec 2023), Messiah with the Radio Community Chest (Dec 2023) and Carmen with Opera Hunter (2024)
Born visually impaired, Kirsten regularly performs in disability events including NSW and ACT Disability Expos (Impact Institute) and White Stick Fest. Kirsten takes on all opportunities with her seeing eye dog, Kimba, who may or may not appear on stage, but is Kirsten’s constant and loyal companion.
Kirsten is also a disability advocate, encouraging everyone to live their best life and purpose, pursuing their own goals and dreams.
